When most people think of the Alaskan wilderness, they think of snow, but they do not think of Alaska as a potential vacation destination. However, Alaska offers breathtaking mountain views and a wide array of wildlife. One of the most exciting and adventurous ways to experience Alaska is through a sled dog tour.

Most tours last anywhere from a few hours to an entire day. However, they are more than just a ride on an authentic dog sled pulled by Huskies. Many tours also include lessons on the history of dog sled racing or lectures on the skills needed to survive in the Alaska wilderness. Also, most tours include a stop at the kennel, where participants can spend time with the sled dogs and learn about their history. Additionally, some tours are led by former Iditarod racers. The Iditarod is a famous sled dog race held in Alaska every year.

Prices vary by company and length of tour and range from 65 to 150 for adults and 35 to 80 for children. Most companies recommend bringing rain jackets and sunglasses and dressing in layers.

Adventurous travelers will appreciate the authenticity and excitement of an Alaskan sled dog tour. For your next vacation, consider a trip to Alaska to experience a real Alaskan sled dog tour.

Alaska is one of the final frontiers on earth and is a most sought after destination for those who are seeking to observe the true splendors of nature and there is no better place to get away from it all. Alaska is a huge state with areas of open tundra, snowcapped mountains, dense forests, rivers, streams and a wild, rugged, coastline.

Alaska has very few roads and the main transportation to get around the state is by bush plane.
Bush planes operate from all the major coastal cities and fly hunters, fishermen and nature observers into the remote regions of the awe-inspiring wilderness. Hunters seeking trophies are flown into alpine lakes to hunt moose, to barren tundra flats in search of caribou and to hunting camps and lodges throughout the state. Alaska is a fisherman-s paradise and planes are continually ferrying anglers to lakes and streams to test their skills against trout and salmon.

For the sightseer, a bush plane tour along the coast and into the mountains, gives the visitor a birds-eye view of a land rich with nature and beauty. Many vacationers are transported to the backcountry to set up camp for a personal adventure like no other.

Never had much of a reason to visit Alaska? We-re here to tell you about some of the best reasons to visit the US-s last frontier and the best ways to do itGet out your SatelliteInternetBroadband.com or call your travel agent today!
Alaskan Cruises ” One of the more popular ways to see Alaska is from a cruise ship. This method allows you to circulate to several authentic fishing villages and keeps you insulated from the elements, for the most part. Day trips include fishing endeavors and ice scaling ” not for the faint of heart.
Iditarod ” Perhaps you-ve heard of the world-s foremost dogsledding race? This championship is a sight to behold each spring and it-s worth every penny. Locals and tourists alike both get into the action and learn to appreciate nature-s fury all over again.
Ice Fishing ” If you really want to experience the great outdoors, hire a guide to take you and your family ice fishing. Trips range from 8 hours to 8 days and if you want you can even stay in a fishing shack on the ice! It-s going to be cold though, so pack like you-re landing on the moon.

Alaska has been nicknamed America’s “Last Frontier.” And rightly so; for our largest state has only a few persons per square mile, making it a perfect place to enjoy the wilderness. Ten great hiking trails will be discussed here.

(1) Deer Mountain Trail, Ketchikan, is in the far southeastern corner of the state, in Tongass National Forest. It leads up 3,000-foot Deer Mountain.

(2) Chilkoot Pass Trail, Skagway, is also in Tongass. The trail was taken by prospectors in 1898.

(3) Russian Lakes Trail, Seward, further west, goes by lake cabins where one can go trout fishing.

(4) Harding Icefield Trail, Seward, lies in the spectacular glacier area of Kenai Fjords National Park.

(5) Lost Lake Trail, Seward, goes by an alpine lake in the Kenai Mountains.

(6) Flattop Mountain Trail, Anchorage, takes hikers up the state’s most commonly used trail.

(7) Resurrection Pass Trail, Girdwood, has eight cabins along the way.

(8) Crow Pass Trail, Girdwood, leads through a “winter wonderland” of ice glaciers, wildflowers, and mining remains.

(9) Kesugi Ridge Trail, Talkeetna

(10) Byers Lake Trail, Talkeetna

As the saying goes, “If you stay in Alaska for more than a year, your feet will be frozen in it.”
